The layout is part of SketchUp Pro, designed to make printing, presenting, and documenting your SketchUp models fast and easy. Layout and SketchUp Pro are designed to figure together. After you insert SketchUp models into a Layout document, you can design the document to highlight your 3D model’s best features. If you ever got to change or update your original SketchUp model, you’ll update the model in Layout in order that all the small print are synched automatically.
Characteristics of Layout
- Automatic Updating
All pages in Layout are live linked to your SketchUp model, so if you make a change, your documents update as well.
- Vector Drawing Tools
Vector Drawing Tools got to add notes, details, or mark-ups. Add them using Layout’s Vector Drawing Tools.
- Print and Export
It prints and exports in high resolution documents.
- Annotate and Explain
Layout allows you to feature annotations, callouts, line weights, and more to your models.
I wanted to talk about a couple different ways you can display details in your layout documents.
Option 1
The primary way is clearly the simplest simply create a 3D view of your detail, then import that viewport into Layout (Detail Credit – Metal Coping Detail by International Masonry Institute). One thing to note if you do this is that you can only set it to a scale if you turn your perspective view off. These details can actually be very helpful for contractors as they show/indicate in a 3D space how the assembly actually looks.
Option 2
Model your detail in SketchUp, then create a 2D view and import it into Layout. This works in a very similar manner to if you were to make a building elevation. Simply create your view, then save and make a workspace together with your scene.
Option 3
Draw your details directly in the Layout. I find this feature to be a touch clunky – I’m not an enormous fan of the way things inference in Layout, but you can directly draw within a model in layout with the “Make Scaled Drawing” option. Simply select your scale and start drawing.
Option 4
You will also adjust the details that you simply get out of SketchUp by drawing over them to permit patterns, hatching, and other information.
