Today in this article, I will tell you how to get started with V-Ray. V-Ray is probably the industry leader in static rendering for still images. I will give you a walk through about V-Ray, where everything is and all sort of things and just kind general overview about V-Ray. I think one of the problem in rendering is a lot of people start way to it advanced and they become confused and they quit. So I am going to tell you step by step how to approach V-Ray rendering.

Take a look at V-Ray for Sketchup

V-Ray for Sketchup Toolbar contains tools which you can use to edit and create your rendering. In tool bar there is a setting called asset editor; there is a couple of other settings called view for render and also frame buffer. So to start off, I am going to create a shape rectangle and give it a height of 4 inches. I will give a bevelled edge. And this will be our platform and we will check out the UI for V-Ray or asset editor for V-Ray.

So click on asset editor. After clicking a window is going to pop out. So within this there are several different tab in it where you can edit different things in your model. I am going to focus bon the tab which is called materials and lights. Material section allows to add material in your model. In material column you will see there is a list of active material column. You can apply different material in your model like we have selected material in our rectangular model. You can edit the way you want it to look within V-Ray. Basically, you can adjust the colour of the model or you can apply different colours to your model.

Wipe out all materials

Now let’s delete or wipe out all the materials used in our rectangular model. So let’s say we want to use this rectangular model as a wood based. One thing we can do is we can go to Sketchup library and put wooden material on it but there is also a library material contains in V-Ray. Go to asset editor and go to material section , click the left arrow, you will notice there are different kinds and categories of materials assigned. So in this case if you scroll down , you will find out a wooden section In it. Secret any of the wooden material and we will apply on out rectangular model. Right click on material, and select add to scene. So now , the Rectangle model is showing a wooden model out here. Now click on interactive render from V-Ray toolbar , you will preview your actual model after rendering.

SketchUp is the best software which helps us in a way to unleash our creativity and also the easiest way to make a 3D model. If we are in a rush to complete our design, then it is the right place where we can get ready made components. In this vault of SketchUp, we can get various kinds of 3D models like furniture, car, plants, landscape architecture, home, door, people, window, kitchen, stairs, art gallery, soccer stadium, police station, , musicians, temple at things.

Quality components
Quality components

The institution of components in a SketchUp model greatly works on the speed at which our design and modeling work can progress. We can also define it as a group of single instance of a collection of geometry. It can also be as a collection of geometry that can exist at multiple locations within the model. Components can be made by selecting all of the edges and faces of an object, or a set of objects, and then right-clicking over the highlighted (i.e. selected) objects and selecting Make Component from the menu. Ensure that Replace Component with Selection is checked.

Setting the best point for component origin

Setting a proper component origin is important for the users of our product designs. This is the point by which people will bring your component in from 3D Warehouse and the Component Browser. The origin also work on swapping of components in a SketchUp model designing.

The origin point for a model should be based upon how the model will be used by the designer once downloaded from the 3D Warehouse. For example, a good origin for a faucet would be the centre line of the base. Items like furniture that goes against a wall should use the back left corner . The same back left corner point is good for items such as cabinets, that are downloaded out from a wall or corner.

Furniture that is put in the middle of a space should use the centre of mass of the object at the base of the object. Chairs that should be fitted around a table or at a desk could profit from an origin that is at the midline of the front of the chair, at the floor line.

Naming of Components

Discovering Components during modeling is quite easy in SketchUp. SketchUp helps in providing auto naming of Components to fast up Component creation. The delinquency name provided in the create Component dialog is the word ‘Component’ followed by a ‘#’ and an incremented number . The number value keeps incrementing to assure that each new Component is named differently. But when a Component requires a different product name, the Component name can be changed. Select the Component in the Component Browser and select the Edit Tab, or use the Entity Info dialog.

The priority name is the actual Component name. In the Component Browser, the priority name is the name shown in the top text field of the Components dialog, and the Definition in the Entity Info dialog.

Note: In the Entity Info dialog box, the Name field is only a explanation for a particular instance of the Component in the model, it is not the actual name of the Component definition. That is stored in the Definition box.

Sharing components and how to use them Component saving from a master file

When you are designing a Component in a working file with other Components: Right-click on the Component and select Save As. SketchUp will let you point to the folder in which you wish to store the component, and it will use the name of the Component as the priority filename for the external file.

The Component is saved as a file, and its file origin point will be the origin point of the Component.

Examples of components

SketchUp Pro contains over 400 models from suppliers like seats, displays, profiles, tables.

This mobile design bar is best for creating desks and bars at trade shows and events, because it are all separated pieces.
