Trimble SketchUp, once possessed by Google, is seemingly the most famous 3D configuration, demonstrating, structure and rendering programming accessible on PCs. Not at all like the vast majority of the more expert engineering programming, SketchUp is accessible in adaptations as opposed to offering full usefulness at one go. This empowers you to pick your toxin relying on your necessities.

The SketchUp arrangement is a fun, simple-to-utilize 3D displaying and rendering programming that can run in a program, on your PC or Mac. To be exact, SketchUp is a surface polygon modeler, which converts into that the product considers everything to be a face or an edge. This strategy liberates you from the imprisonment of utilizing just engineering instruments or an excessive amount of practicing.

The item works all things considered, for everyone – you can be a sketcher, a mechanical subject matter expert, a stone carver, or even a mechanized skilled worker. Not under any condition like most showing programming you want no extraordinary readiness in using SketchUp, everything runs fundamental and clear. The connection point is unblemished and cleaned up, it doesn’t cover you in a million devices.

There are around five (5) renditions of SketchUp accessible available: SketchUp Free, SketchUp Shop, SketchUp Pro, SketchUp Pro Bundle, and SketchUp Studio. These vary as far as functionalities offered, the modules notwithstanding, and obviously the cost. Let us see which has what to offer.

SketchUp versions you should know about:

SketchUp Free

Additionally called SketchUp for Web, it is the most essential adaptation accessible on SketchUp. It is only a program application; which means, actually you can simply open up any program and go to app.sketchup.com to begin planning. In spite of the fact that that implies you can run it on a cell phone, still, it was not intended for contact info and it isn’t suggested.

In any case, it runs absolutely great in paintings regions. As the call suggests, it’s miles absolutely allowed to make use of and is allowed for person make use of because it were. Beforehand the SketchUp Free turned into reachable for paintings regions named because the SketchUp Make; you could at gift find a extra pro shape here.

The web application interface is altogether different from the work area application interface, however, it offers similar instruments and they act a similar way. Be that as it may, the apparatus symbols do look somewhat changed so there is a touch of progress space. However, your fundamental SketchUp console easy routes will work with the Web application, so you’re sans home there.

One extraordinary preferred position of utilizing SketchUp for Web is that you get 10 GB of free distributed storage for your plans on Trimble Connect. So there is an extraordinary transportability alternative as long as you have a working PC and a sensibly decent net association. The cloud space is additionally associated with the SketchUp Viewer application which deals with the two PCs and mobiles.

Since SketchUp Free is a downsized variant of SketchUp Pro, it doesn’t have a considerable lot of the functionalities of the full forms. For instance, you can’t make custom materials or styles, you can’t utilize the outliner, no strong apparatuses, and so on. Nonetheless, the element decrease that may hurt the most is that you can’t utilize modules in this form!

Included salt the injury is that your models can be spared remotely as SketchUp models (.skp and .stl records) and PNG models. (In any event, the STL documents work for 3D printers.) Also, every one of your records will be watermarked with the SketchUp logo.

Execution of SketchUp Web can be a genuine drag just as web applications can never rival work area applications as far as machine effectiveness.

SketchUp Shop

In the event that you are not searching for the propelled documentation abilities of LayOut and will be content with a modest planning instrument, at that point SketchUp Shop is for you. It is again a web application, and the membership expense is $119 every year.

The secured includes in the SketchUp Free get released in this adaptation. You can utilize custom styles and materials, utilize the outliner, the irritating watermark isn’t there any longer, and you can import and fare AutoCAD documents. You additionally get a boundless extra room on Trimble Connect. Notwithstanding, you are still expansion obstructed in SketchUp Shop!

SketchUp Pro

As a long way as sheer structuring capacity, the SketchUp Pro is the maximum amazing adaptation. Heave metally as your enlargement guide is unblocked, make use of propelled import/alternate choices, make use of sturdy devices, make dynamic parts, and extensively more.

In contrast to past adaptations, it is a work area application, and consequently, it is significantly up on the presentation stepping stool. I wager 90 percent of your first week with this will be spent in the Extension Warehouse or at the SketchUcation site.

The SketchUp Pro comes included with LayOut and Style Builder. The LayOut is a documentation support application for SketchUp that lets you characterize viewports and spread them out on paper with legitimate measurements and comments. The name is simple in Style Builder, it lets you make your custom styles.

Still less expensive than most other 3D displaying programming, SketchUp Pro accompanies a $299/year membership plan or you can get it always for $695 for individual use as it were.

SketchUp Pro Bundle

It is equivalent to the above with the exception that it includes support for VR and Hololens watcher support. It would incorporate functionalities of SketchUp Shop also. It has a similar membership charge as SketchUp Pro however you can’t inside and out buy it.

SketchUp Studio

The Studio rollout of SketchUp is a definitive bundle of the SketchUp arrangement as it incorporates everything of the abovementioned. It likewise acquires another toy, called Sefaira. This is a vitality investigation programming accessible in the group. The SketchUp Studio bundle accompanies a weighty membership expense of $1199 every year.

Picking between the above alternatives can be troublesome. Make a point to make sense of exactly what you need and how profound your pockets are. When picked the privilege SketchUp form can breathe life into your planning abilities.

The Autodesk Company offers a free cloud-based version of SketchUp Free, which is one of the best options for new users. SketchUp Pro and SketchUp Studio, which offer more features and are based on a subscription model, are more expensive. Even so, directly competing companies charge significantly less.

SketchUp offers free and reduced-cost versions for students and educators, as well as fully functional trial versions that you can try out before buying.

Features

In addition to architecture, interior design, urban planning, civil engineering, and construction, SketchUp is used for visualization and planning in a variety of industries.

SketchUp’s user interface is rather undeterred for first-time users.

Even beginners who are interested in understanding 3D modeling software basics won’t be overwhelmed by too many tools out front. Drawing up a simple 3D printable model takes only a few hours as SketchUp’s tools are intuitive and allow users to navigate the program.

Using SketchUp increases the range of features with increasing prices. With higher prices, more features will become available.

Here are the features included in the most affordable version of SketchUp:

  1. Three-dimensional models in 3D Warehouse are available for unlimited access.
  2. Viewer for mobile augmented reality.
  3. You can store unlimited data in the cloud.

Difference between Free Version & Paid Version in SketchUp

Since there are several versions of SketchUp software, it is worth knowing the major differences between Free and other versions.

  1. You can create CAD designs using all SketchUp offerings since they all feature the same basic tools. The free version is adequate for basic 3D modeling. Nevertheless, you will find that the program is more user-friendly and otherwise a more professional program in many other aspects.
  2. Modeling buildings is one of SketchUp’s standard tools. SketchUp’s free version will not be sufficient if you want to model organic shapes, such as terrain. The paid version of the software includes advanced tools like a sandbox to create organic shapes.
  3. The rendering also differs significantly. It comes with a simple renderer that can create standard resolution images of your work using SketchUp’s free version.
  4. The paid versions allow users to render and export high-resolution images.
  5. The paid version allows you to create animated sequences along with static images. So your work comes to life.
  6. The most valuable feature of SketchUp might be its Extension Warehouse, available only with the paid edition. The program’s plug-in system provides users with access to an array of tools and features. Developers can purchase some of these extensions for a fee, while others are free. The creation and upload of extensions are encouraged.

System Requirement

  1. A processor with a clock speed of more than two GHz.
  2. A minimum of 8GB of RAM is required.
  3. Hard disk space is 700MB.
  4. An ideal 3D video card should have 1 GB of memory or more, as well as hardware acceleration. It is important to ensure that your video card driver supports OpenGL 3.1 or higher.

Wrapping it up

The free version of SketchUp lets you learn some of the basics of 3D modeling without burdening your computer. You can use this if you want to design from a Chrome book or other less powerful device.

SketchUp Free does have some limitations, and one of the main disadvantages will be its limited import and export options. If you want to design mainly from scratch or use 3D Warehouse files and download models as STL or SketchUp files, you should be fine, but anything more than that will start causing issues.

In today’s article we are going to discuss few different ways of web version of Sketchup. So let’s go and jump into!

Example model credit

First download any model available in 3D Wearhouse. This is the wine cabinet by 282 design studio. If you want to download along then go to 3d warehouse and search in for that model.

There are few things to look at , some of the these model are available in free version and some of them are available in shop version.

Example model credit
Example model credit

Printing a simple 3D view

So we have this wine cabinet and we want to print the view of this. In the simplest way, go to the option “menu” and click on the option called “print”. After clicking print, it will be viewed with the cabinet and you might also notice, it will have a grey background.

Preview of print
Preview of print

You can set the layout for printing according to your needs by just clicking on “other page sizes”.

Adjusting the location of 3D model

Suppose you want to print this model in prorate layout. After changing the setting of page in prorate you will notice that the model in not in the centre of location. One good thing about this is it is a live V port meaning you can scroll in and out in order to place it in the centre of the page.

Adjusting the location

You can hold the “shift” key and click and drag the middle mouse to pan as well. So if you want print something like this , you can centre the model in any page format. You can also change the grey background and put a white background. Just check the dialogue box “style” and you will have a white background.

So that’s going to be the easiest way to print from web view in Sketchup.

Printing dimensions

You can also add dimensions according to your requirement in this model. Just click on scaling tool and add your measurements.

Adding Dimensions
Adding Dimensions

You can print this and take out to a carpenter for making a new furniture like the way you want or you can even give an knowledge about any resized model to your Clint.

One thing to be taken in consideration is that you can’t print scale in free version of Sketchup. It’s only available in Sketchup Pro.

SketchUp is one of the most used 3D modeling computer programs in architecture, landscape architecture, interior design, mechanical engineering, civil engineering, film industry, and video game industry. One of its main advantages is that it’s light for computers and straightforward to use compared to most CAD programs.

However, SketchUp comes in a variety of plans and pricing and we must be careful to choose the plan that not only fits our budget but also fills our design and modeling needs. SketchUp wont to be solely desktop software, offered on Mac and PC. Nowadays, there’s SketchUp on our phone, SketchUp on our tablet, SketchUp in our browser.

Among SketchUp’s plans, SketchUp Free and SketchUp Pro are the foremost commonly used. But what’s the difference? What would make us choose one and not the other? during this guide, we shall closely examine each of the two SketchUp plans looking into their key features while also laying out their differences.

Sketchup Free Pro
SketchUp Free Vs Pro

SketchUp Free

SketchUp Free runs inside our browser, so we need an internet connection, and any device that runs a modern browser will technically work. We could open up the browser on our phone and run SketchUp Free, but it’s not really designed for touch input, so unless we have a Bluetooth mouse and keyboard, We wouldn’t recommend it. SketchUp Free is licensed for personal use only.

Features:

  • 10GB Cloud Storage through Trimble connect,
  • customer support by SketchUp community,
  • Limited Downloads of 3D warehouses,
  • Standard model viewing on iOS & Android devices, and
  • Basic interoperability means it can only support SKP & STL Import file types and STL & PNG export file types.

This plan is best suited for personal use. If we are looking for a SketchUp program for a company, for example, this may not be the best option. Besides, since it is a web-based application, we can only use its features while online and thus requires a very good internet connection. In SketchUp Free Plan, we will be able to use all the above applications for free except Sefaira, used for early-stage analysis by designers who care about building performance, which you will require to buy.

SketchUp Pro

Contrary to SketchUp Free which has limited features, SketchUp Pro may be a full-featured web and desktop modeller and maybe want to create anything. The most powerful version of SketchUp is SketchUp Pro. SketchUp Pro may be a desktop software bundle for Mac/PC and includes three programs: SketchUp Pro, Layout, and elegance Builder. (Style builder lets us create custom sketchy edge styles.) SketchUp Pro is the desktop version of SketchUp and has advanced features like superior import/export options, Solid tools, Dynamic Component creation, and the ability to install extensions. We can view available extensions on the Extension Warehouse, and some additional extensions available on the Sketchucation plugin store.

Features:

  • Unlimited Cloud Storage through Trimble connect,
  • Customer support through SketchUp community, email and phone,
  • Standard model viewing on iOS & Android devices
  • Allows Augmented Reality, computer game and Mixed Reality applications for XR headset viewing using XR Hololens, WMR, Oculus Rift, Oculus Quest, HTC Vive, and SteamVR.
  • Professional interoperability that permits it to support a good range important and Export File Types
  • Unlimited 3D Warehouse Extensions
  • Unlimited downloads from the 3D warehouse
  • Allows for 2D layouts

This plan is best for professionals also as students in Primary and secondary schools. It are often downloaded onto desktops while offline. The SketchUp Pro plan comes with most of the flamboyant advanced tools required for 3D modelling and style presentations required by professionals and students.

SketchUp Pro allows us to access all SketchUp features that include:

  • SketchUp for Desktop
  • SketchUp for Web
  • 3D Warehouse
  • Extension Warehouse
  • SketchUp Viewer
  • SketchUp Community Forums
  • Sefaira

The SketchUp Pro desktop platform provides us with all the tools you require to do a professional 3D model.

If we need to download 3D models from the 3D warehouse, we just have to click on the ‘Get Models…” open box-like button, which is the third from the right end of the top ribbon. Additionally, you can also upload your 3D models to the 3D warehouse by clicking the adjacent button on the right.

To share our 3D modelled components, we will have to download the Desktop SketchUp viewer. Once we download it the last button to the right on the top ribbon will become active and we can always use it to share our 3D models and 2D designs with colleagues. It also allows us to do terrain modelling, model rendering, and walk through animations, among others through its wide range of tools.

SketchUp Free Vs. SketchUp Pro comparison table

After looking at the key features of the two SketchUp plans, here is a comparison table of their key features and differences

Depending on the complexity of our work, we can now choose which of the two SketchUp plans best suits us. And in case our needs do not fit any of the two SketchUp plans, SketchUp has other plans, namely SketchUp Studio For Students, SketchUp Studio For Educators, SketchUp for Schools, SketchUp Shop, and SketchUp Studio.
