Introduction

Using Revit 2023, the user can design electrical and mechanical systems in all stages of the workflow; ranging from conceptual design and analysis to designing and documenting design deliverables, as well as improvements to support detailed construction design.

There are a number of strategic areas that have been addressed with these improvements, such as using analytics to generate design and utilizing models as deliverables for the construction phase.

The documents address quality of life issues for BIM practitioners, which were several of the top ideas that received the most votes on the Revit Idea Station as well.

All new features of Revit 2023

An innovative approach to electrical preliminary design using an analytical workflow

Within Revit’s new power distribution functionality, electrical engineers are now able to define information pertinent to power distribution at an early stage of the design process.

It has been found that this new workflow provides a way for Revit to be able to handle the key electrical loads and distribution information without having to physically model any parts of it, unlike traditional workflows in which engineers manage information in multiple places – preliminary one-line drawings, spreadsheets, DWGs, and often PDFs.

Before creating the model, loads and distribution system elements can now be conceptually defined and connected.

With this new workflow, electrical power distribution design workflows can be initiated from a BIM centric perspective, with a vision to connect those workflows to downstream workflows in the future.

Improvements and Innovation in Energy Analytical Model

The new version has made a number of foundational improvements to Revit’s Energy Analytical Model while Next Gen Insight is still in development, and as the need for measuring and reducing Building Energy Use and Carbon Emissions is only growing, we are making a number of improvements to Next Gen Insight.

As a result, these improvements will be beneficial to Insight for early phase / big picture analysis of energy, Systems Analysis for detailed sizing and simulations, and GBXML export for 3rd party analysis tools.

In addition to the emphasis on Accuracy, Precision, and Performance, we also took the opportunity to refactor several key components that were originally written many years ago in order to start this process.

Not only does this provide a better basis for enhancing Revit in the future, but it also provides much faster Revit processing speeds and now it eliminates memory limitations for models of incredibly large sizes in Revit 2023 which will enable you to make even more improvements in the future.

Improved engineering services for mechanical and electrical firms

For things like thermostats, categories were added for Plumbing Equipment and Mechanical Control Devices, making it easier to define views in the newer version. Furthermore, in the family editor, there is now the possibility to re-host connectors, giving you the ability to move them within the editor without having to re-define them each time.

There is a new parameter in Revit 2023 that allows the circuit number to be included in tags, schedules, and view filters, just as there is for all other electrical devices and mechanical equipment so that the circuit number can be used in various views and tags.

Last but not least, the maintain annotation orientation’ option has improved how annotation symbols nested in families correctly maintain orientation in some circumstances.

Improvements in the Platform

MEP users can benefit from a variety of improvements to the Revit platform. Displacement of elements in 2D views is one of the favorites of users.

Accurate and Faster Searches

In the past, searching for nodes was a slow and tedious process. The name of the node had to be typed exactly as it appears on the node. In spite of that, you did not have any guarantee at all that it was going to work.

There is a significant improvement in the speed of the new search. There are also some typos that can be made, just like in a Google search, which is also a good thing. There are still some problems with it, such as nodes being hard to locate, but it is still not perfect.

Modeling and fabrication improvements for detailed mechanical systems

The manufacturing workflows were improved by addressing consistency problems associated with holes for damper blades in duct fittings.

Prior to this improvement, proper support for holes is somewhat inconsistent across patterns, and the behavior could be a bit unpredictable.

In some cases, holes are not developing even if configured to do so, and in other cases, holes are developing at incorrect locations, resulting in a lot of manual 2D modification of duct developments, disrupting manufacturing operations
